One of the larger
of the Thousand Islands, Grindstone has a history and heritage
born in two countries. Grindstone was once considered a Canadian
Island and not until 1823 was the border settled. However this
did not really make much difference to the Grindstone Islanders.
Some were Americans, some were Canadians and some were both.
This unique political history and the isolation of island life
caused the development of
a special place.
