Obituary:  CLAYTON---Walter E. Kittle Jr., 68, of 533 John St., died at 2:03 p.m. Tuesday at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, after a short illness.

    A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Daniel L. Chapin, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

    There are no calling hours.  Donations may be made to the St. Mary's Parish Center Building Fund or the Clayton Volunteer Ambulance Fund.  Arrangements are with the Cummings Funeral Home.

    Surviving are his wife, Eleanor K.; two sons, Walter E. 3rd, El Paso, Texas, and Scott A., San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Nancy A. Frahm, San Diego; two grandchildren; a brother, J. Murray Kittle, Clayton; two aunts; and nieces, nephews,
and cousins.

    Born on Dec. 13, 1926, in Clayton, a son of Walter E. and Frances L. Murray Kittle, he graduated from Clayton Central School in 1944 and attended Syracuse University, where he was a football letterman in 1944.

    Mr. Kittle entered the Navy on Dec. 7, 1944, and was discharged July 6, 1946.  He was a seaman first class and a radioman, receiving the American theater and Victory medals.

    On June 2, 1948, he married Eleanor K. Reff at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. George E. Racette officiating.

    He was co-owner of the former Kittle Motors until 1975.  He worked for the state Parks and Recreation Department in inventory and procurement from 1974 until his retirement in 1988.

    Mr. Kittle was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.  He was also a member of the American Legion Colon-Couch Post 821, and a former member of the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department and Clayton Calumet Racing Team.

    He was director of the Clayton Youth Center in baseball, football, and basketball from 1955 to 1969.

    He was an avid traveler.
