Lyle A. ROBINSON

Obituary (from Watertown Daily Times of 14 Dec. 1993):  CLAYTON---Lyle A. Robinson, 81, Brunswick Cove Convalescent Center, Southport, N.C., formerly of Clayton, died Sunday evening at Dosher Memorial Hospital, Southport.

    A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, town of Cape Vincent.

   There will be no calling hours.  Arrangements are with the T. R. Jetty Funeral Home.  Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

    Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Keziah, Boiling Spring Lakes, N.C., and Karin Lynn Pittsburgh, Pa., and two grandchildren.

    He was born Aug. 15, 1912, in Thurso, Grindstone Island, a son of Albert and Lula Garnsey Robinson.  He graduated from Clayton High School and served 3 1/2 years in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

    Mr. Robinson was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Clayton for 19 1/2 years, retiring in August 1977.  He later moved to North Caolina where he lived with his daughter.

    He was previously married to Janice Marie Ure of Carthage.

    Mr. Robinson was a member of the Clayton United Methodist Church and Colon-Couch Post 821, Clayton.


Charles BENTZEN

Obituary (from newspaper of Saturday, 1 Nov. 1980):  CLAYTON---Charles Bentzen, Grindstone Island, died at 3 this morning in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Syracuse.

    Arrangements are with the Cummings Funeral Home here.

    His survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Camilla) Baum, Hastings, and two grandchildren.

    He married Helena Calhoun of Grindstone Island Oct. 19, 1919, at the Grant farm, Grindstone.

    She died Nov. 23, 1976, at age 80.


Melvin R. CALHOUN

Obituary (from Thousand Islands Sun of 27 June 1963):  CLAYTON---Melvin R. Calhoun, 56, of Grenell Island, died at 7 p.m. Thursday near his home.  He had suffered from a heart condition three of four years.

    The funeral services were at 2 Sunday at the Clayton Methodist Church with Rev. Dean P. Shaw, pastor, officiating.  Burial was in Clayton Cemetery.

    Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace A. Matthews Calhoun; a daughter, Mrs. Lewis H. (Louise) Burns, Fine View; two sons, Melvin D., Clayton, R.D.; Leslie A., with the state police in Ogdensburg; three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Helena) Buntzen
and Mrs. Harry (Aletha) Slate, both of Grindstone Island; Mrs. Woodrow (Mabel) Longdon, Canastota; a half-sister, Mrs. Delia Thompson, Alberta, Canada, and seven grandchildren.

    He was born May 8, 1907, at Grindstone Island, son of Benjamin and Jessie Hutchinson Calhoun, and attended school there.

    Mr. Calhoun married Grace A. Matthews May 30, 1928, at the Clayton Methodist Church parsonage with Rev. William Adams, Pastor, officiating.

    From 1934 until 1961 he was a caretaker and boatman at

"The Glimpses," summer home of Clarence D. Kerr, Englewood, N.J., on Grenell Island.  Since 1961 he had been a caretaker for John C. MacFarlane, Bartlett Point.
