Willard W. CHASE

Obituary from the Watertown Daily Times of 17 Nov. 1976:  ALEXANDRIA BAY--Willard W. Chase, 67, of 29 1/2 Bethune St., died Tuesday morning in the Edward John Noble Hospital, where he had been a patient six days.

    He had been in failing health for eight years.

    The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Giltz Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Shibley, pastor of the Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles, officiating.  Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hammond.

    Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

    Mr. Chase is survived by his mother, Mrs. Charlotte Trembath, Alexandria Bay; two sons, Willard, jr., Syracuse, and Phillip, Redwood, and two grandchildren.

    He was born in Alexandria Bay on Oct. 20, 1909, son of Archie and Charlotte McLear Chase, and attended local schools.  Mr. Chase was employed as a mason by J. B. Reid Construction Co., then 30 years for Charles Garlock & Son and later was
caretaker for 15 years at Estrelitta Island until his retirement in 1968.

    He married Katherine Babcock on Dec. 12, 1931, in Clayton.  She died Dec.5, 1970.


Katherine BABCOCK

Obituary from the Watertown Daily Times of 7 Dec. 1970:  ALEXANDRIA BAY--Mrs. Katherine Babcock Chase, 55, wife of Willard W. Chase, died Saturday night at 11:45 at their home on Estrelita Island, where her husband is caretaker.

    Mrs. Chase had telephoned her son, Phillip, 10 Holland St., and told him she was not feeling well and was short of breath.  She had been suffering from a sore throat.  Her son went to the island by boat and found his mother dead with the
telephone receiver still in her hand.  Her husband, Willard, was disabled by a stroke and has not yet recovered his power of speech.

    The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Giltz Funeral Home, Rev. David Bergner, pastor of the Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles, officiating.  Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hammond.

    Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

    Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Willard, jr., Syracuse, Phillip, Alexandria Bay; her father Ray Babcock, Barnes Settlement Road, and a grandson.

    Born June 18, 1915, at Barnes Settlement, a daughter of Ray and Edna Barden Babcock, she attended Alexandria Bay High School and was married to Willard W. Chase on Dec. 12, 1931, at Clayton.  The couple has worked as caretakers on
Estrelita Island 15 years and have lived on the island eight years.
