Charles E. HAAS

Obituary:  LaFARGEVILLE, April 6---Charles E. Haas, 84, retired operator of Tavern hotel, died Thursday at 2 p.m. in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown.  He had been a patient since March 13.

    The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Parker and Hoyt funeral home with Rev. Clifford W. Sullivan, pastor of the LaFargeville Methodist church, officiating.  Burial will be in LaFargeville cemetery.  Friends may call at the
funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 and Saturday fron 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

    Mr. Haas is survived by a son, Gerald B. Haas, LaFargeville, and a sister, Mrs. Lester (Minnie) Provo, Brookline, Mass.

    He was born in Depauville Aug. 29, 1887, son of the late George and Clara Haas.  Mr. Haas attended rural schools and married Blanche May Barton in 1902 in Alexandria Bay.

    The couple lived here after their marriage and Mr. Haas was employed as a rural mail carrier for eight years.  He entered the hotel business here and later in Clayton before returning here to operate the Tavern hotel.  Since his
retirement, his son has operated the hotel.

    His wife died April 17, 1952.


Blanche May BARTON

Obituary from newspaper of 18 April 1952:  LaFargeville--Mrs. Blanche May Haas, 69, wife of Charles Haas and resident of this village for years and native of the town of Orleans, died Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the Edward J. Noble hospital
at Alexandria Bay, where she had been a patient since Wednesday.  Mrs. Haas had suffered from a heart condition and had been in poor health for about a year.

    Mrs. Haas was born in the town of Orleans near this village on June 25, 1882, daughter of Edward and Martha Carris Barton.  She received her education at the local school.

    In 1902 she was married to Charles Haas in a ceremony performed here by Rev. Mr.  Wiles.  Her husband ran a tavern in this village until his retirement after which their son carried on the business.

    Mrs. Haas was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal church.

    Surviving besides her husband is the son, Gerald Haas, who resides here.

    A private funeral service will be held at the Hoyt funeral home Sunday and 3 p.m. with Rev. H. Roberts Mallabar, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating.  Friends may call at the Hoyt funeral home Friday evening from 7 to 9 and
Saturday afternoon and evening from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9.

    Six nephews, all of whom live near here, will act as bearers.  They are Lloyd Barton, Paul Barton, Kenneth Barton, William Barton, Virgil Barton and Romain Barton.

    Burial will be in LaFargeville cemetery.
