Orrin J. BALCOM

Obituary:  Orrin J. Balcom, 79, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, Nov. 25, 1965, at his home in Redfield.

    He was a life resident of Redfield and a lumberman and carpenter until his retirement.  He was born April 23, 1886, the son of Evan and Ella Fox Balcom.  He married Miss Ida Mae Grant in October, 1937.  She died Aug. 4, 1962.

    Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Bradley Taylor of Mexico; four brothers, Robert, Charles, Rolon, and Vann Balcom, all of Pulaski, and several nieces and nephews.

    The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 at the Taylor Funeral Home, Pulaski, with Rev. Francis Doerchug, former pastor of Williamstown Community Church, officiating.


Robert BALCOM

Obituary (from newspaper of 3 Nov. 1973):  PULASKI---Robert E. Balcom, 82, of 7549 Delono St., died at 6:45 a.m. today in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where he had been a patient 17 days.

    The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Episcopal Church, Pulaski, Rev. Richard Clay officiating.  Burial will be in South Richland Cemetery.

    Friends may call at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home Sunday 7 to 9, Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

    He is survived by his widow, Zilthia; two sons, Arthur, Greenlawn, L.I. and Alvin, Keene, N.H.; three brothers, Charles, Rolan, and Vann, Pulaski, and seven grandchildren.

    He was born March 15, 1891, at Redfield, a son of Eban and Ella Fox Balcom.  He attended Redfield School and was employed in New York City as a fireman.

    He returned to Pulaski in 1919 and took a job with the New York Central Railroad, retiring in 1956.

    He was married Dec. 25, 1932, to Zilthia McNitt in Pulaski.

    He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and served as a vestryman for years.  He was also a member of the Pulaski I.O.O.F.


Ruth B. SAUNDERS

Obituary (from newspaper of 9 Sep. 2000):  PULASKI---Ruth B. Balcom, 96, of 57 Bridge St., died Friday at Pontiac Cursing Home, Oswego.

    Mrs. Balcom was formerly employed at Remington-Rand, Syracuse, and Albert's Department Store.

    Born July 16, 1904, in Pulaski, daughter of Charles and Nellie Helmer Saunders, she was a life resident of Pulaski and attended Pulaski schools.

    She married Rolon C. Balcom Sr. in 1920.  Mr. Balcom died July 8, 1977.

    Mrs. Balcom was 80-year member of Pulaski Baptist Church, where she was past secretary and treasurer and a member of the church's Ann Judson Circle.  She was also a member of Rising Sun Rebekah Lodge and the Salmon River Barracks
Auxiliary.

    Surviving are a son, David L., Williamstown; a daughter, Virginia M. Foster, Pulaski; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

   A son, Rolon C. Jr., died Sept. 3, 1988.

    The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home with the Rev. Brett Charsky officiating.  Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery,

    Calling will be from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Vann R. BALCOM

Obituary (from newspaper of Saturday, 16 Feb. 1980):  PULASKI---Vann R. Balcom, 72, of 7343 Lake St., a retired dairy farmer, was pronounced dead on arrival Thursday afternoon at Northern Oswego County Health Services, Inc.  Death was
attributed to a heart attack.

    The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Rev. Dolen Morris, pastor of Park United Methodist Church, officiating.  Spring burial will be in South Richland Cemetery.

    Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.  Donations may be made in Mr. Balcom's name to a favorite charity.

    He is survived by his wife, Constance Balcom; six sons, Francis T., Pennellville, John R., Hannibal, Earl T., Milford, Ohio, and David M., Leonard M., and Alton C., all of Pulaski; a brother, Charles, Pulaski; 21 grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.

    Born April 14, 1907 at Redfield, son of Evan and Ella Fox Balcom, he attended Pulaski schools.

    He and Ella Mae King were married in 1927.  They lived all their married lives on a dairy farm on the Scenic Highway, R.D. 2, Pulaski.  She died April 24, 1971.

    He married Constance Rogers on May 16, 1972.  They had since lived at their present address.

Austin H. BALCOM

Obituary (from newspaper of Monday, 6 Oct. 1980):  ALTMAR---Austin H. Balcom, 81, Altmar, Route 1, died Sunday afternoon in Crouse-Irving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse, where he had been admitted Sept. 24.

    The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, with Rev. Thomas P. Whelan, pastor of St. John's Church, Pulaski, officiating.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown.

    Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

    He is survived by his wife, Mare A.; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Pappa, Williamstown, Mrs. Arlene Davidson, Pulaski, and Mrs. Laura Ruffos, Parish; 16 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

    Born Nov. 7, 1898, at Redfield a son of Oliver and Lettie Balcom he attended Redfield school and married Marie A. Geldmeyer Jan. 30, 1929, in St. Charles, Ill.

    The couple lived in St. Charles until they moved to Redfield in 1940.  He was employed by the Revere Brass and Copper Co., Rome, as a guard, retiring in 1964 after 27 years service.
