Vinton Perl COMINS

Obituary (from newspaper of 24 March 1950):  CHAUMONT---Vinton P. Comins, 70, Morristown, died suddenly of a heart attack at 9 this morning at the home of his brother, Addison Comins, Depauville-St. Lawrence Road, a few minutes after he had
been out shoveling snow.  Mr. Comins had completed the work and had gone back into the house where he collapsed.

    Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 from the St. Lawrence Methodist Church.  Rev. Henry Bridges, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

    Surviving besides his brother, Addison, are one sister, Mrs. Jennie Consaul, Clayton; four brothers, Walton, Harrison, and Columbus, all of St. Lawrence Corners, and Raymond, West Byron.

    Mr. Comins was born in the town of Clayton April 24, 1879, a son of James H. and Addie Cornwall Comins.  He married Harriett Joslin of Wolf Island at Chaumont April 10, 1906.  Rev. Mr. Phelps performed the ceremony.  Mrs. Comins died April
9, 1948.

    For the past 17 years Mr. Comins had lived in Morristown.  He had been visiting his brother for the past four months.

    For the past few years, Mr. Comins had been a chef at summer camps in this area.

    He was a member of the Depauville Lodge, F. and A.M.


Harriet Mary JOSLIN

Obituary (from Hammond Advertiser of 15 April 1948):  A prayer service was held Tuesday forenoon from the Sprague Funeral Home in Canton at 11:30 a.m. for Mrs. Harriet Mary Joslin Comins, 68, who lived near Morristown.  She expired suddenly at
her home Friday.  The Rev. Walter S. Dobbie officiated, and also at the funeral services which were held at 2:30 p.m. from the Methodist Church at St. Lawrence.

    Mrs. Comins and her husband, Vinton P. Comins, who survives her, lived for several years in Canton, where he was formerly a chef at Dean Eaton Hall at St. Lawrence University, and previously worked at the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

    Mrs. Comins was born on Wolfe Island, Ont., on Sept. 20, 1879, a daughter of the late Almond and Victoria Herring Joslin.

    She was married to Mr. Comins at Chaumont on April 10, 1906.  They would have celebrated their 42 wedding anniversary Saturday.

    For the past six years they have lived in their camp near Morristown.

    Mrs. Comins in survived by her husband, a sister, and a brother, and several nieces and nephews.


George W. PETTIT

Obituary (from newspaper of 14 Feb. 1925):  CHAUMONT---George W. Pettit, aged 71, of the town of Clayton, died Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bert Hagerman, near Schobels Corners, near here, following a short illness.  Death was
caused by a heart disease.

    Mr. Pettit came from his home near Depauville to pay a visit to his daughter and was stricken ill while there.  He became worse from day to day until his death occurred late Thursday night.

    He was born Feb. 9, 1854, in Clayton and resided there most of his life.  He was the son of Marcus and Cornelia Wright.  Early in life he was married to Cornelia McIntyre of the town of Clayton, who died several years ago.

    He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bert Hagerman of Schobels Corners, Miss Mary E. Pettit of Depauville; one son, George H. Pettit, of Clayton; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Pluno of Ithaca, Mrs. Henry Benson of Gouverneur, and Mrs. Marion
Cheever of Chaumont, besides one brother, John Pettit, of Brownville.

    Mr. Pettit had followed the occupation of farming his entire life.  He was a member of St. Lawrence Grange and always had been active in its affairs.

    Funeral services will be held from the home Sunday afternoon at 1, and from the Methodist Episcopal Church at Depauville at 2, Rev. Frank Brown, pastor, officiating.  Interment will be made in Depauville.
