Ross ORMSBY

Obituary (from newspaper of 18 March 1976):  CLAYTON---Ross E. Ormsby, 74, of the Three Mile Creek Road, a retired machinist for Black Clawson Co., Watertown, died Wednesday at 11:10 p.m. in the Edward John Noble Hospital, Alexandria Bay, where
he had been a patient since Dec. 13.

    The funeral will be Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home and 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church with Rev. Euclid Marier officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

    Calling hours will be Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Donations may be made to the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Fund.

    Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Estelle Carpenter Ormsby, a resident of the Samaritan-Keep Home, Watertown; a son, Glenn E., and a grandson, Stephen R. Ormsby, both of Clayton; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ray, Clayton, Jay 220
TenEyck St., Watertown, and Terry F., Jackson, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Roy (Flora) Harkson, Norfolk, Va., and nieces and nephews.

    Born at Watertown, May 4, 1901, a son of Perley and Nellie Dodge Ormsby, he attended Clayton schools and married Estelle Carpenter at Altona June 8, 1927, with Rev. George E. Racette officiating.  The couple came to Clayton in 1933 from
Altona and had since lived here except for a time in Watertown.

    Mr. Ormsby was a road salesman for Bradley Hardware Co. and also worked as an automobile salesman in Plattsburgh.  He later was employed as a machinist at the New York Air Brake Co., Watertown, and retired from the Black Clawson Co. as a
machinist.


Edward Walton COMINS

Obituary (from newspaper of 18 Nov. 1953):  CAPE VINCENT---E. Walton Comins, 69, Cape Vincent-Clayton Road, a cattle buyer long active in Republican politics, died Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 at his home here.  He had been in failing health for
about five years.

    A Masonic funeral service will be held by the Depauville Lodge at the home Thursday morning at 10:30, with Rev. Solomon A. Card, jr., pastor of the Clayton Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will be made in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.

    In accordance with a wish expressed by Mr. Comins before he died, flowers will be omitted.  Money may be contributed in Mr. Comins' name to the Jefferson County Cancer Society.

    Surviving besides his wife, Mrs. Blanche Miller Comins, are a daughter, Miss Nina Comins, at home; a son, Miles, Rochester; four brothers, Addison, Depauville; Harrison, St. Lawrence; Raymond, Byron, and Columbus, Adams, and a sister, Mrs.
Jennie Consaul, Clayton.

    Mr. Comins was born in the town of Clayton on Jan. 28, 1884, son of James H. and Addie Cornwall Comins.  He married Miss Blanche Miller, St. Lawrence, on Oct. 8, 1907.  After their marriage, Mr. Comins and his father-in-law went into a
partnership operating the Miller and Comins General Store, St. Lawrence, which the two ran until Mr. Comins sold out to his brother, Raymond, several years ago.

    Upon selling his share of the store, Mr. Comins went into the cattle buying business, in which he was active until his retirement because of poor health about two months ago.

    Always active in town and county affairs, Mr. Comins was G.O.P. county committeeman from Cape Vincent for 46 years.  He also served for a time on the Cape Vincent town board.


Charles Addison COMINS

Obituary (from newspaper of 22 Aug. 1966):  CLAYTON---C. Addison Comins, 85, of the St. Lawrence-Depauville Road, died at 11:10 this morning at the Ryan Nursing Home, Watertown, where he had been a patient since Aug. 12.

    He had been a patient at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, from July 21 until his transfer to the nursing home.

    Funeral arrangements are with the Cummings Funeral Home, Clayton.

    Among the survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Warren E. (Marjorie) Doty, Rochester, and two grandchildren.

    Charles Addison Comins was born July 2, 1881.

    He was an employee of Kelly Roofing company before his retirement.

    On Dec. 27, 1905, he married Miss Lessie Henry at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milo Henry, in a double ceremony in which her sister, Lula Henry, was married to Frank Tiernan.  Rev. B. G. Blaisdell officiated.  The two couples
celebrated their 50th anniversaries together in 1955.  Mrs. Comins died June 28, 1958.
