Obituary (from newspaper of 24 Feb. 1941):  CLAYTON---Mrs. Frances Calhoun Rusho, 85, widow of Freeman Rusho, and a resident of Grindstone Island for over 65 years, died at the Mercy Hospital, Watertown, Saturday afternoon at 5:30.  Mrs. Rusho
underwent an operation on Friday at the hospital and never rallied.

    Mrs. Rusho, who had been spending the winter in this village with her son, Jasper C. Rusho, had been in good health until she was stricken by an intestinal ailment on Wednesday.  She was removed to the Watertown hospital and on Friday
underwent the operation.  Later, peritonitis set in which resulted in her death Saturday afternoon.

    Prayer services will be held at the home of her son, Jasper C. Rusho, 536 Webb St., Tuesday afternoon at 2 followed by funeral services at the Methodist Church at 2:30.  The services will be conducted by Rev. William Eddy, pastor of the
Clayton Methodist Church.  Burial will be made in the Clayton cemetery.

    Mrs. Rusho was born in the town of Clayton, June 22, 1855, a daughter of Benjamin and Olive Bartlett Calhoun.  When she was one month old, her parents moved to Pillar Point in the town of Brownville.  She received her education in the
rural schools on Pillar Point and at the age of 16 returned to the town of Clayton with her parents.

    She was married to Mr. Rusho on July 4, 1873, in this village when she was 18 years old.  Since her marriage, she had made her home on Grindstone Island with the exception  of the past few winters which she had spent in this village.  Mr.
Rusho was drowned in 1904 when crossing the St. Lawrence River from Grindstone Island to this village.

    Surviving are two sons, William A. Rusho, Adams, and Jasper C. Rusho, Clayton.  A third son, Manley A. Rusho, Grindstone Island, died July 9, 1937.  She is also survived by three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

John served at Sackets Harbor in the War of 1812.

Information from Pension File:  John Garnsey served as a corporal in Capt. Lyman Denning's Co. of Detached Militia of  Col. Christopher Bellinger's Regiment of New York State Militia, War of 1812, from May 12, 1812 to July 12, 1812.  Roll dated
Aug. 30, 1812.

John Garnsey came with his father from Vermont to Lowville, Lewis Co., NY and in 1836 to Clayton, NY.  His father, Samuel, came at the same time.  Samuel was a soldier in the Revolution.
