Lottie M. BIGDA

Obituary (from newspaper of Saturday, 22 Jan. 1994):  CAPE VINCENT---The funeral for Lottie M. Farr, 83, formerly of Rosiere Road, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Simpson-Cleveland Funeral Home, Cape Vincent, with the Rev. Timothy Ladden, pastor
of St. Vincent De Paul Church, Rosiere, officiating.  Spring burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery.

    Mrs. Farr died Thursday evening at McAuley Hall, Watertown, where she had been a resident since July.

    Calling hours will be Monday at the funeral home an hour before the funeral.  Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

    Surviving are her husband, Stanley; a son, Edward A. Pelo, Churchville; two granddaughters; a brother, Tony Bigda, Lyons Falls; a sister, Agnes Krug, Lyons Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

    Several brothers and sisters died before her.

    Born on July 23, 1910, in New York City, a daughter of Anthony and Mary Bigda, she attended New York City schools.

    She married Edward Pelo, who died in 1950.  She lived in Lowville until 1951, when she moved to Cape Vincent and married Stanley Farr on Nov. 10, 1962, in St. Vincent De Paul Church.

    Mrs. Farr was a communicant of St. Vincent De Paul Church.


Harold RUSSELL

Obituary (from Watertown Daily Times of Sunday, 8 Feb. 1987):  HAMMOND---An Alexandria Bay man died Saturday morning after the pickup truck in which he had been a passenger was struck broadside by another vehicle on Lake Street just outside the
Hammond village limits.

    Pronounced dead on arrival at 11 a.m. at  A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg, was Harold Russell, 77, Otter Street Road.

    Two other persons suffered minor injuries in the 10:30 a.m. crash.

    St. Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies said Edward G. Gagnon Jr., 19, Morristown, had pulled onto Lake Street from Route 23 and was heading west when an eastbound pickup truck driven by Horace G. Willix, 70, Dingman Point Road, Alexandria
Bay, attempted to make a left off Lake Street into a private driveway.  Willix failed to see the approaching vehicle and the passenger side of his truck, where Mr. Russell was sitting, was broadsided by Mr. Gagnon's car.

    Mr. Gagnon suffered head cuts, and a passenger in his car, Darren Strader, 18, Semour Street, Ogdensburg, suffered bruises and scrapes to his feet and knees in addition to suspected head injuries.  Both were treated and released.

    Deputies charged Willix with failure to yield the right of way.  They said their investigation is continuing.

    An autopsy will be conducted.

    The funeral for Mr. Russell will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Frederick Brothers Funeral Home, Theresa, with Rev. Robert Vrooman, pastor of the Reformed Chruch of the Thousand Isles, officiating.  Burial will be in Barnes Settlement Cemetery,
Alexandria Bay.

    Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

    Donations may be made in his name to the Alexandria Bay Fire Department Ambulance Corps or the Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles.

    He is survived by his wife, Nathalie; three daughters, Mrs. Carl (Murelyn) Cumber, Bridgeport, Mrs. Harry (Marion) House, Carthage, and Mrs. Lonnie (Gail) Darou, Depauville; 14 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

    Three brothers and two sisters died before him.

    Born Oct. 3, 1909, on Wellesley Island, a son of Roswell and Margaret Crawford Russell, he attended local schools and married Nathalie Garnsey on Aug. 20, 1933, at the Plessis Methodist parsonage with William J. Hancock officiating.

    He worked as a caretaker and chauffeur for Mrs. Julia Tallman of Tar Baby Island, Ont., from 1918 to 1962 and worked on Birch Island for Remington Nichols from 1962 to 1972, when he retired.

    He was an honorary member of the Alexandria Bay Fire Department and a member of the Alexandria Bay Masonic Lodge 297, F. & A.M.. Alexandria Bay Odd Fellows Lodge and Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles.


Nathalie G. GARNSEY

Obituary (from newspaper of Wednesday, 8 Aug. 1990):  ALEXANDRIA BAY---Nathalie G. Russell, 76, Otter St., widow of Harold Russell, died this morning in Edward John Noble Hospital, where she had been a patient since June 27.

    The funeral will be held at 1:30 a.m. Friday at the Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles with the Rev. Robert Vrooman officiating.  Burial will be in Barnes Settlement Cemetery.

    Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Frederick Brothers Funeral Home, Theresa.

    Donations may be made to the Alexandria Bay Rescue Squad, the Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles or to the Edward John Noble Hospital Memorial Fund.

    Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Marion) House, Carthage, and Mrs. Lonnie (Gail) Darou, Depauville; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and a brother, George Garnsey, Redwood City, Calif.

    A daughter, Mrs. Carl (Murelyn) Cumber, died in December.

    Born Sept. 25, 1913, in Leek Island, Canada, the daughter of William and Mabel Potter Garnsey, she moved with her family to the Town of Clayton at the age 6.  She was graduated from Clayton High School and then from Canton College of
Technology in the field of dietetics.

    She married Harold Russell Aug. 20, 1933, in the Plessis parsonage with the Rev. William J. Hancock officiating.  The couple then resided in Alexandria Bay.

    Mr. Russell was killed in an automobile accident Feb. 7, 1987.

    Mrs. Russell was a member of the Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles and the Rebekah Lodge of Alexandria Bay.
