G. Douglas LONGWAY

Obituary (from newspaper of Friday, 11 Jan. 1991):              G. Douglas Longway, 75, Route 37, former town of Pamelia supervisor and owner of Longway's Truck Stop, died this morning in A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg, where he had
been a patient since Jan. 3.

    The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Simpson-Cleveland Funeral Home with the Rev. Welling Storch, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in North Watertown Cemetery.

    Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.  Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Foundation.

    He is survived by a son, Lawrence, Watertown; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Linda) Malinich, Rochester; three grandchildren; two brothers, Pat, Texas, and Denny, Watertown; five sisters, Mildred Card and Mrs. Charles (Bettie) Sprague, both of
Watertown, Mrs. Ralph (Harriet) Moulton, Homestead, Fla., Regina Tanner, Evans Mills, and Doris Longway, Chaumont; several nieces and nephews.

    A son, Richard, died Jan. 19, 1965, and a brother, Leon, died in 1988.

    Born Sept. 19, 1915, at Three Mile Bay, a son of George and Harriet Joles Longway, he was graduated from Brownville High School and married Elva Fawcette Aug. 31, 1940, in the Brownville Methodist Church.  She died Dec. 26, 1971.

    His marriage to Evelyn J. Morrow Hughes ended in divorce in 1983.

    Mr. Longway worked for a number of years as a cattle dealer in the Jefferson County area.  He later owned Longway Construction Co. and built roads in Northern New

York from 1950 to 1966.

    He built and was a partner in the Navy Point Marina in 1962, selling his interest in 1984.  he built the Longway Truck Stop on Route 37, and had owned it from 1966 to the time of his death.

    In 1978, Mr. Longway built and operated Longway's Truck Stop, Central Square.  He sold that business in 1983.

    He was owner of Longway's Wholesale Fuel Co. from 1978 to 1989 and was the supervisor for the town of Pamelia from 1968 to 1977.

    Mr. Longway was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Watertown Masonic Temple, Shrine and Jesters.
