Obituary:  CLAYTON---Morton S. Cummings, 68, boatman and caretaker of this village, died early Monday morning, March 31, at the Syracuse Veterans Hospital.  The body was removed to the Cummings Funeral Home here.

    Mr. Cummings is survived by four brothers, Malcolm, Clayton; Ernest K., of Pennsylvania; Darl B., Clayton and Aaron, Grindstone Island; a sister, Mrs. Andrew (Dorothy) Ulrichs, Syracuse, and a niece, Miss Elizabeth Boyd Cummings, who made
her home with Mr. Cummings at 511 James St.

    Mr. Cummings was born Sept. 15, 1889, on Grindstone Island, the son of Milo and Frances Collins Cummings.  He attended schools on Grindstone Island and at Clayton and was graduated from Albany Business College.

    He had been caretaker for the Crumb family for the past four years on Bluff Island.  Previous to that, he had been employed for 26 years by the Rose family from Binghamton on Round Island and by the Morgan family on Papoose Island.

Obituary (from newspaper of 7 Sept. 1976):  CLAYTON---Malcolm P. Cummings, 89, of 817 State St., a retired plumber and tinsmith, and a woodcarver, died in his sleep Monday morning at his home.

    The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Manley E. (Marjorie) Johnson, St. Lawrence Corners, Clayton R.D., with Rev. Richard Barton, pastor, Clayton United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in
St. Lawrence Cemetery.

    Calling hours are this afternoon and evening at the Johnson Funeral Home.  Contributions may be made in his name to the Clayton Ambulance Fund.

    He is survived by his wife, Lulu R. Cummings; three sons, Lt. Col. (ret.) Donald M. Cummings, San Bernardino, Calif., Robert L., Houghton, and Miles A., Corfu;  three daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Arlie) Gorman, Clayton and Austin, Tex., Mrs.
Manley (Marjorie) Johnson, Clayton, R.D., and Mrs. Beverly O'Kay, Chaumont; a step-son, Lyle A. Robinson, Clayton; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Ulrichs, Syracuse.

    Born Feb. 9, 1887, on Grindstone Island, son of Milo and Frances Collins Cummings, he was a life resident of the Clayton section.

    He married Charlotte M. Robinson Oct. 18, 1911, on Grindstone Island.  She died July 27, 1939, at the age of 49.  He married Mrs. Lulu Garnsey Robinson Feb. 9, 1942, at the Clayton Methodist Church.

    A retired plumber and tinsmith, he was one of the oldest woodcarvers in the Thousand Islands section and specialized in carvings of St. Lawrence River Craft.

Obituary (from Watertown Daily Times of 14 July 1987):  CLAYTON---Miles A. Cummings, 56, of Corfu, formerly of Clayton, died Friday afternoon at his home after a long illness.

    The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home Inc., with Rev. Russell Gale, interim rector of Christ Episcopal Church, officiating.  Burial with military honors will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Town of Cape
Vincent.

    Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorial donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc., P.O. Box 853, Utica.

    Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Arlie Gorman, Clayton, Mrs. Manley (Marjorie) Johnson, Watertown, and Mrs. Beverly O'Kay, Chaumont; two brothers, Donald, California, and Robert, Houghton; a stepbrother, Lyle Robinson, Clayton, and
several nieces and nephews.

    Born July 18, 1931, in Clayton, son of Malcolm and Charlotte Robinson Cummings, he attended Clayton schools.

    Mr. Cummings was disabled while serving during the Korean War.  he later worked as a salesman and keyboard instructor for Bird's Music Store, Batavia.  He was a member of St. Barnavis Episcopal Church, Corfu, and the Glen S. Loomis Legion
Post, Batavia.

Obituary (from newspaper of Saturday, 20 Oct. 1979):  CLAYTON---Mrs. Lulu Cummings, 94, of the Samaritan-Keep Home, formerly of Clayton, widow of Malcolm Cummings, died at 5:10 this morning at the Samaritan-Keep Home, Watertown, where she had
resided since its opening.

    There will be a private funeral at the Cummings Funeral Home, Clayton, with Rev. Robert Nay, pastor, Clayton United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Town of Cape Vincent.

    There will be no calling hours.

    Donations may be made in her name to the Clayton Volunteer Ambulance Fund.

    She is survived by a son, Lyle Robinson, Clayton; two granddaughters; 17 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; three step-sons, Robert Cummings, Houghton, Donald Cummings, San Bernardino, Calif., and Miles Cummings, Corfu; three
step-daughters, Mrs. Arlie Gorman, Clayton, Mrs. Marjorie Johnson, St. Lawrence Corners and Mrs. Beverly O'Kay, Chaumont.

    Born July 7, 1885, on Grindstone Island a daughter of George and Amorette Chase Garnsey, she married Albert Robinson in November 1910 in Clayton.  He died Jan. 6, 1958, at the age of 56.

    She married Malcolm Cummings Feb. 9, 1942.  Mr. Cummings, a retired plumber and tinsmith and a woodcarver, died Sept. 6, 1976, at the age of 89.

    She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Clayton United Methodist Church.
